Australia's water storage levels have risen 7% over the past year thanks to heavy rains across eastern and northern parts of the country.
The biggest increases have gone to NSW, Victoria and South Australia with storage levels in the Murray Darling Basin as a whole now over 50%, up an impressive 27% from this time last year.
While rain has bucketed down over the east, parts of Western Australia have just gone through their driest winter on record. The storage levels are suffering as a result with a drop in 20% during the past year.
With further heavy rain forecast across eastern Australia over the coming days our water levels should get another boost, but with many catchments now saturated the rain should also bring some flooding to smaller streams and rivers, particularly across the northeast of Victoria where totals may reach 100mm.
