Music on The Weather Channel

The Weather Channel is currently playing music from the following albums, compliments of Universal Music.

Bombay Bicycle Club – A Different Kind Of Fix

Bombay Bicycle Club - A Different Kind Of Fix

‘A Different Kind of Fix’ is a giant step into adulthood for Bombay Bicycle Club; the album draws the strands of I Had the Blues, Flaws and Jack’s solo instrumentals into a panoramic picture of what this band is capable of. It is a watershed for the band: not just their best record yet, but a promise of still better to come.

Recorded in Hamburg, London and Atlanta, ‘A Different Kind of Fix’ captures the sound of a band effortlessly progressing and innovating at a startling rate. Guitars are firmly plugged back in for album number three, but added to the mix with potent results are synths, sampled loops, layered vocals from all four band members and washes of reverb throughout.

From the teenage indie kicks of their debut; to the sparse, timeless folk of last summer’s top ten album, ‘Flaws’ (nominated for an Ivor Novello Award); the quartet open a new and beguiling chapter with, ‘A Different Kind of Fix’.

Powderfinger – Golden Rule

Powderfinger – Golden Rule

Recorded in Byron Bay with friend and producer extraordinaire Nick DiDia (Neil Young, Pearl Jam), Golden Rule is a departure from Australian Rock royalty Powderfinger’s signature sound - whilst still maintaining their knack for producing classic rock songs - unusual instrumentation, dramatic angular structures and dissonant strings nestle between harder riffs and experimental harmonies.

Gin Wigmore – Holy Smoke

Gin Wigmore – Holy Smoke

Gin created Holy Smoke with Mike Elizondo as her producer [Fiona Apple, Regina Spektor, Eminem, Nelly Furtado, Maroon 5] and with The Cardinals as her backing band [as in the very same Cardinals from Ryan Adams & The Cardinals].

Cardinals’ guitarist Neal Casal has described Gin as “unquestionably one of the most exciting new artists to emerge in many years. Her songwriting is at once diverse, intelligent, melodic, and soulful. Her voice is raw and emotional, with phrasing far beyond her years. Her debut record is a fully realised statement of intent, promising a great career ahead.”

Fellow Cardinal Jon Graboff says: “Gin’s songwriting seems to subtly embrace so many different musical forms and lyrically, there’s often a maturity and depth that you wouldn’t normally associate with someone so young. There’s profound connection between her and all the great, soulful singers who’ve come before her and she adds a new chapter to that story.”

In her native New Zealand, ‘Holy Smoke’ spent four weeks at #1, a staggering 24 weeks in the top 5 and is certified triple platinum. Now, Gin is more dangerous than ever in the stunning new video for ‘Too Late For Lovers’.

Sarah Harmer - Oh Little Fire

Sarah Harmer - Oh Little Fire

With a sound reminiscent of her acclaimed album You Were Here (which Time Magazine hailed as “The year’s best debut”), but also showcasing a bit of her folk and country side, Oh Little Fire may be the strongest batch of songs Sarah Harmer has ever released. Co-produced by Sarah and Gavin Brown (Metric, Sarah’s All of Our Names), Oh Little Fire is Sarah’s first new album in 4 years and is full of the same hooky melodies, insightful lyrics, and lovely, plaintive singing which attracted so many fans to her music from the start of her career.

Oh Little Fire was recorded in a Toronto east end studio run by producer Gavin Brown (Metric), who played drums on Harmer’s 2000 solo debut, You Were Here, and on Wolfe Island, near Kingston, Ontario. The songs reflect this dual genesis: “The City,” with its chiming power-pop punch, tells of “places to meet up under the light,” in rained-out streets, while “New Loneliness” is a spooky, spacious track that references canoeing, insects, and “wandering white-tailed deer.”

Duffy – Rockferry

Duffy – Rockferry

Duffy’s debut album Rockferry is evocative of the music that raised her, yet thoroughly modern, and her soulful sound combines a nostalgic, scratchy blues feel with the rustic sound of modern life. Recorded straight to tape, the album has a charisma all its own, with the defiantly catchy single Mercy haunted by the ghost of Motown. Rockferry has already sold over 3 million copies globally and is platinum in 15 countries.

Tift Merritt – See You On The Moon

See You On the Moon is Tift Merritt's most visceral work to date. A deeply centered departure, these focused and creative musical short stories find Tift at the height of her powers. "I wanted to make a really direct record. I wanted to take everything to a place that was less labored, of more depth. Open space, real strength. There was a certain feeling of inevitability about it. Like I found these songs whole."
